1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly and data generated through your use of the service.

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile name and profile picture. If you use email/password authentication, we store a hashed version of your password — we never store it in plain text.

Dream journal content

The core of Somniscient is your dream journal. We store the text and voice recordings you submit, along with AI-generated interpretations, extracted symbols, and any tags or notes you add. This content is stored in our database and is associated with your account.

Usage and technical data

We collect standard technical data including your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited. This helps us maintain the service and understand how it's being used.

Payment information

Subscription payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy. We do not store your credit card details. We receive confirmation of your subscription status and transaction identifiers from Lemon Squeezy.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect to:

• Provide, operate, and improve the Somniscient service
• Process your dream entries through AI to extract symbols and generate interpretations
• Manage your account and authenticate your identity
• Process subscription payments and manage your plan
• Send transactional emails (account confirmations, password resets)
• Respond to your support requests
• Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
• Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data or dream content to third parties. We do not use your dream content for advertising purposes.

3. AI Processing of Dream Content

When you submit a dream entry, its content is sent to AI providers (including OpenAI and/or Anthropic) to generate symbol extraction and interpretations. This means your dream text is processed by these third-party AI services.

We use these services under data processing agreements that restrict how they may use your data. Your dream content is not used to train their models under our agreements. However, you should be aware that your content does leave our servers during this processing step.

If you prefer not to have your dream content processed by AI, you can use the journal in a manual mode without requesting AI analysis.

4. Third-Party Services

Somniscient integrates with the following third-party services:

• Google OAuth — for sign-in with Google. Google's use of your data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
• Lemon Squeezy — for subscription billing and payment processing. Their privacy policy applies to payment data.
• Resend — for sending transactional emails. Your email address is shared with Resend solely to deliver messages from us.
• OpenAI / Anthropic — for AI-powered dream analysis. Dream content is transmitted to these services for processing as described above.

We only share data with third parties to the extent necessary to provide the service.

5. Cookies and Analytics

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to understand how the service is used. This includes session cookies (required for authentication) and analytics cookies that help us measure usage patterns.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may prevent you from signing in or using core features of the service.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data and dream journal content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data and dream content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or compliance reasons (such as billing records, which we keep for up to 7 years).

Anonymized or aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytical purposes.

7. Your Rights (GDPR and Beyond)

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate data
• Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated data
• Export — receive your dream journal content in a portable format
• Objection — object to certain types of processing
• Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data in certain circumstances

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@somniscient.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.

8. Children's Privacy

Somniscient is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at support@somniscient.com and we will delete the account promptly.

9. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls on our database.

No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to support@somniscient.com.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll notify you by email or through the app. Continued use of Somniscient after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
